Magic in the Mess
September has always felt like a second beginning.
More than January, in some ways. The back-to-school energy that lives in our bodies long after school is behind us. The sense of things shifting. The light changing. The year turning toward its deeper chapters.
It is a natural month to look honestly at what we have been carrying — and at the parts of our story we have quietly been managing rather than meeting.

The Parts You’ve Been Managing
There are parts of your story you have been managing.
Not processing. Not integrating. Just quietly keeping in their designated corner — the difficult chapter, the season that didn’t resolve, the thing you don’t quite know how to feel about even now.
We all do this. It is not a failure. It is how we get through. We put the unresolved things in boxes and we set the boxes somewhere we don’t have to look at them, and we carry on. For a while, that works.
But here is what I have come to believe: those are often exactly the parts worth paying attention to.

The mess is not a detour. It is the material. The parts that feel unfinished, complicated, or uncomfortable — those are often where the most interesting things about you are quietly waiting.
Why We Resist
Change is uncomfortable. This is not a character flaw. It is biology.
The familiar — even when it no longer serves us — registers as safe. The unfamiliar — even when it holds everything we have been longing for — registers as risk.
The resistance you feel when change approaches is not weakness. It is simply your nervous system doing its job. You don’t need it to disappear before you begin. You just need to be willing to move alongside it.
And this is the part that matters most: you don’t need to blow up your life to embrace change. You don’t need to fix what you find. You simply need to be willing to look — honestly, gently — at the parts of your story you have been keeping in their corner.

The Gifts Inside the Difficulty
Inside most difficult experiences — when we are willing to look — there are gifts.
Not gifts that justify the difficulty. I want to be careful here. This is not about reframing pain into positivity, or insisting that everything happened for a reason.
Some things simply hurt, and no amount of meaning-making erases that.
But alongside the difficulty, almost always, there is something real that would not exist without what forged it. A resilience. A depth. A capacity to understand others that came only because you understood it yourself, first, the hard way.
That mess made you – YOU. And that YOU is worth meeting.
What you’re looking at is not a list of things that happened to you. It is a portrait of who you became because of them.
An Invitation to Look
This September, as the year turns and everything in you reaches for a fresh start, I want to offer a gentler kind of beginning.
Not a new goal. Not a self-improvement project. Just a willingness to open one of the boxes you have been carrying — and to look at what is inside with curiosity instead of judgement.
Start with curiosity. Stay with gentleness. Trust that what you find is something you can work with.
The mess has always been the material. And you have always been more capable of working with it than you have let yourself believe.
The magic was never separate from the mess. It was in there the whole time, waiting for you to be willing to look.

A QUESTION TO CARRY
What part of your story have you been managing rather than meeting? And what might it be trying to show you?
If this is resonating —
The S.T.O.R.Y. Bridge is a warm, unhurried community for women who feel the pull toward this work. Come as you are. The door is open.
